This online quilt calculator is designed to provide you the number of blocks needed to make a quilt based on your input of block size, desired quilt width and desired quilt length. If your quilt will have sashings and/or borders, it includes them in the calculation. You can calculate the overhang of your quilt using the Calculate Overhang calculator. You can also adjust your entries and see new results based on them. When you are done and you want to start over, click "Clear Results" and all data will be erased.
To calculate (first three items are required):
Your Results displays your results highlighted in yellow. Sometimes the number of blocks needed across or down comes out as a decimal (shown in calculated blocks across and calculated blocks down). Since we usually don't use partial blocks in quilt making, the calculator rounds these two answers to the nearest whole number and shows it as suggested blocks across and suggested blocks down.
Using the suggested blocks across and suggested blocks down, it provides the results for the total number of blocks needed and the actual quilt width and actual quilt length. If you are usings cornerstones, it calculates the number and size of the cornerstones as well as the number and size of sashing pieces required. You can change any part of your original input and click calculate to see the new result. The new answer will replace your original answer.
Adjust Your Results allows you to enter a new number for the blocks across and blocks down. The calculator uses your orininal input of block size, sashing width, and border width to provide the results. These results are displayed in light blue. You can compare the adjusted results to the calculated results above to see how the change in the number of blocks affects the quilt width, length, number of cornerstones and number of sashings (if used).
Calculate Overhang will figure the overhang on the sides and end of a bed. Enter the actual quilt width and length, select the bed size, and click 'yes' or 'no' for pillow cover (tuck). If you click 'yes', enter in inches the allowance you want for the pillow tuck. Then click "Calculate Overhang". Your results are shown highlighted in light blue. You can adjust your input of width and length or change the bed selection and click calculate again. The new answer will be shown.
